Gmail gets redesign : Now supports all email platforms

Recently Google had launched Inbox which many people touted to be the future of Gmail and the same was supported by Google. There has been a huge frenzy till now to gain an Inbox invitation because currently the app is invite only and this makes the idea seem even more novel than it is. But one thing that most people left unseen was that the Gmail app for Android got a redesign and now it supports all major email platforms. Till now the updated APK is not visible in some regions on the offical Google play site but it can be downloaded via sites like Apkmirror. Now that means that you can have all your email at one place. Though we have inbox and we used it for a week or so, the real appeal of Gmail is that we are already familiar with it and Inbox style self arranging interfaces are not something we are accustomed to. So let’s look a bit more closely to understand the changes done in Gmail.

Gmail gets redesign : The changes.

Gmail gets redesigned - Gmail v5 update
The new Gmail app gets material design update.

Like all other Google apps getting redesign the Gmail app has also received material design in this new update. As you can see from the below screnshots and the new icon the material design (which we personally love) has now come to Gmail too!

The Gmail app update has added a few major changes, like an easy to access message compose button. Few navigational improvements, a lot of visual changes.

“We know some of you have email addresses that aren’t Gmail (it’s okay to admit it),”

Google stated publicly in an official blog.

“The updated Gmail app now supports all email providers, which means you can now set up a separate inbox for, say, your Yahoo Mail or Outlook.com addresses using POP/IMAP.”
