On September 4, it was reported that Google announced the official release of the Android 15 source code to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on September 3.
The company also plans to roll out updates to eligible Pixel devices in the coming weeks.
For most users, this release has little direct impact, but it allows manufacturers to access the Android 15 source code to customize and develop their own versions of Android.
Google is expected to begin pushing Android 15 updates to Pixel devices in October 2024, with technology media outlet Android Headline suggesting October 7 as the likely date based on Google’s previous update patterns.
Key features of Android 15 include an enhanced music search function within “Circle to Search,” improvements to the Gemini AI function expanded accessibility features, and the addition of offline maps for Wear OS smartwatches.
