According to a report from on September 27th, OpenAI has informed investors of plans to raise the monthly subscription fee for ChatGPT to $22 by the end of this year.
Furthermore, OpenAI aims to increase the fee progressively over the next five years, potentially reaching up to $44 per month.
This price increase aligns with OpenAI’s transition from a non-profit to a for-profit business model, allowing the company to remove investor return restrictions.
This strategic shift offers OpenAI more leverage in negotiations with potential new investors at higher valuations.
As per the report, OpenAI’s revenue in August 2024 stood at $300 million. The company projects its annual sales will reach $3.7 billion by the end of the year.
However, OpenAI also faces substantial operational costs, including wages, rent, and other expenses, which are expected to lead to losses totaling $5 billion for the year.
To mitigate these financial challenges, OpenAI is seeking new investors.
According to a report from the OpenAI has initiated a new round of financing aimed at raising $6.5 billion, with plans to conclude the funding activities by next week.
