Qualcomm is Leading WiFi 7 Momentum at MWC Barcelona

Qualcomm looks to lead the charge to Wi-Fi 7

As the Wi-Fi 7 era dawns, Qualcomm which is the number one semiconductor company in Wi-Fi has again been poised as the world’s leading wireless technology innovator. They are working with its global ecosystem of partners and driving the transition to the next generation of Wi-Fi with 25 years of Wi-Fi technology expertise and more than 6.5 billion Wi-Fi products shipped.

Till now, they have secured more than 175 Wi-Fi 7 design wins across all product categories, including nearly every announced or in-development device based on their flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile platform.

Strong Wi-Fi 6/6E leadership:

Representatives from Qualcomm asserted that their success in Wi-Fi is well thought out and not an accident. The transition to Wi-Fi 6 and 6E paved the way for what is about to come. They stated that their innovation leadership and manufacturer collabs enabled more than 1600 Wi-Fi 6 and 6E enabled products which have been in development or have been launched. It includes a full device ecosystem including things like PC, smartphones, XR, router, access points, gateways and more.

Qualcomm Wi-Fi 66E leadership

Qualcomm’s networking platforms have set the standard for enterprise-grade and home Wi-Fi 6 and 6E networks, with over 650 designs launched or in progress. The recent introduction of their mesh Wi-Fi flagship systems underscores the worldwide acceptance of a category that we created, and in which their technology is widely utilized.

Their ability to meet the demand for high-performance Wi-Fi has also driven their success in the enterprise networking sector, demonstrating the value of their technological innovations.

Wi-Fi 7 End-to-End Momentum

After the successful adoption of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E offerings, Qualcomm initiated the transition to the next generation in 2022 with the launch of its comprehensive Wi-Fi 7 product line.

The first product introduced was the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth system designed for smartphones, PCs, and VR/AR/XR devices. It adopts a unique baseband-to-antenna system approach and integrates new RF Front-end modules Qualcomm QXM1086 and QXM1083 for 5–7 GHz and 2.4GHz, respectively to leverage their breakthrough Qualcomm ultraBAW filter technology and Qualcomm Diplexer.

The whole system offers overall wireless performance and power efficiency improvements, with peak power consumption savings of up to one watt during Wi-Fi Transmit. As a result, it’s not surprising that most device designs launched or in development utilise FastConnect 7800 feature Qualcomm RF Front-end technology.

FastConnect 7800 delivers signature performance-enhancing Wi-Fi 7 features that have been exclusively available from Qualcomm to date, including High-Band Simultaneous (HBS) Multi-Link.

The High-Band Simultaneous (HBS) Multi-Link feature is capable of aggregating two channels in the 5 GHz and/or 6 GHz bands, achieving a peak speed of up to 5.8 Gbps and significantly improving latency compared to previous generations. This technique also leverages their groundbreaking Qualcomm ultraBAW filtering technology, enabling exceptional concurrent operation in the higher Wi-Fi bands.

HBS Multi-Link is particularly crucial for regions where the 6 GHz band is not yet available for Wi-Fi. For users in those countries, HBS Multi-Link is the only feasible method for achieving significant performance, up to 4.3 Gbps peak speed, beyond what was possible with the previous Wi-Fi generation.
