Saudi Arabia is making a significant investment in the esports sector by hosting the first eSports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh in the summer of 2024.
The EWC announced today that the total prize pool for this event would exceed an unprecedented $60 million, making it the largest in esports history. This breaks the previous record of $45 million set by Gamers8 in 2023.
The tournament will span eight weeks and will see participation from the world’s top clubs and players competing across 20 different championships for 19 competitive titles, with additional events to be announced.
The prize money will be distributed among game championships, club championships, qualifiers, and MVP awards.
Club championships, a unique multi-game competitive format of the EWC, will grant $20 million to the top 16 clubs based on overall performance.
At the conclusion of the event, the club that performs best across all competitions will be crowned the global champion of the inaugural eSports World Cup.
The event will welcome the world’s top clubs and players over an eight-week schedule, including 20 different tournaments for 19 titles, with more to be announced soon.
