TikTok spokesperson stated on Tuesday that the company has taken measures to prevent cyberattacks on multiple brand and celebrity accounts, including CNN.
According to Forbes, the platform has a new vulnerability allowing attacks through messages without needing users to download, click, or reply.
The spokesperson said, “We have worked closely with CNN to restore account access and implement enhanced security measures.”
The number of affected accounts is “very small,” and TikTok is collaborating with the account owners to restore access where necessary.
A TikTok insider told Reuters that Paris Hilton’s account was targeted but not compromised.
It has been noted that CNN is not the only news broadcaster experiencing cybersecurity issues recently.
Earlier this month, over 25,000 BBC employees’ personal data was leaked, with the organization denying a ransomware attack.
In addition to tackling cyberattacks, TikTok is also dealing with the impact of a new U.S. law.
Signed by the President on April 24, the law mandates that ByteDance must sell TikTok by January 19 next year or face a ban. The U.S. court will hear the lawsuit against the TikTok ban in September.
