On August 16, according to a report from Reuters, ByteDance’s TikTok filed an appeal with the Federal Court of Appeals on Thursday, claiming that the U.S.
Department of Justice made a false statement regarding the charges against them. TikTok urged the court to overturn the bill that would require ByteDance to sell TikTok’s American assets.
In the complaint document submitted on Thursday, TikTok emphasized that its content recommendation engine and user data are stored on cloud servers operated by Oracle within the United States.
Additionally, decisions regarding content review that affect American users are also made within the U.S.
In April of this year, it reported that the Senate passed a bill with a significant majority, with 79 votes in favor and 18 against, which could potentially lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States.
This bill requires ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban.
The bill, known as the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, will be sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. Biden has indicated that he will sign the bill into law.
